Missions

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."  (Acts 1:8)
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."  (Matthew 28:19-20)

“Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God.” —William Carey, Father of Modern Missions, Missionary in India

Introduction to Missions

Jesus' charge to the Church in Jerusalem was to "be witnesses" and "make disciples" – working outwardly from the local community to "the ends of the earth" with the ultimate goal of "making disciples of all nations". The Great Commission is intended to be the work of the Church, and not an optional, supplementary, or "as-able" ministry.

A common misconception among many Christians concludes that "missions", as a function of the church, considers only cross-cultural fields in distant, foreign lands.  While this is certainly an objective of God's plan for world evangelism, it was not intended to be isolated from the continuum of cultural and geographical outreach supported in Acts 1:8 (local – regional – national – worldwide).

Our mission plan is developed and organized in three major components: World Outreach, US Missions, and Wellington. This distinction allows us to address the unique challenges and considerations associated with outreach, evangelism, and ministry in the local community (where our congregation live and work), compared to those associated with ministry to distinct populations in the United States or those around the world.
