Dead End

Dead ends.
One wrong turn can lead straight into it.  A small, non-descript one story entrance, painted black barely announces what is inside.  The building is about the size of a garden storage shed – where a winding staircase leads done.  What’s inside?  Dry Bones.  Stacked in piles 8 feet high.  Ordered from shortest to longest.  Arranged in decorative patterns.  Some in the shape of hearts, others in triangular gridworks. Packed in so tightly, no visible space appears.  Whole walls of skulls.

So is the description of the first part of the underground catacomb tour in Paris, France. This mausoleum of sorts holds the ordered remains of an estimated 6 million people who lived and died in the city prior to the 18th century.  A haunting reminder that death is an inevitable part of life.  For some that brings about tremendous grief, a lack of hope, a question of futility.  People ask questions of why, others shrug off responsibilities, some turn from God and retreat into themselves. What remains?  A desert place, devoid of spiritual vitality and religious exuberance.

This is the scene that the ancient exiled prophet turned priest Ezekiel saw in his vision of the valley of dry bones.  Poignantly, the vision is addressed to his fellow Jewish comrades – now caught up in captivity, dragged from their ancient homelands, unable to worship in their temple.  His culture had lost hope.  His people were stacked as useless bones.  Yet it is precisely when we reach dead ends that hope can emerge and new life can begin.

Dead End
Ezekiel 37:4-10 | John 11:1-45

In your times of despair...
· Listen for the Word of God.
· Cling to His Promise.
· Wait for Results.
· Receive the Breathe of Life
REMEMBER THIS
Whatever dies which is good and just —
can and will be resurrected!
THINK THIS THROUGH
Are you still clinging to a shattered dream – never realizing it may have been God’s way of removing a potential nightmare?  Are you now ready to receive a new purpose –
one you’ve never dreamed before?
